I’m so happy to announce the next set of prints from France! “The Little Sailboats” is a 3-print series photographed in Menton early on a summer morning when all was quiet and the air was still.
Menton is a beautiful little town right on the border of Italy, with a subtropical microclimate and famous for its lemons and other citrus fruits. It ended up being a very hot day and you can already see the haze over the Italian coastline in the distance in these images.
I had spotted these boats on a previous visit and knew I wanted to get back and photograph them as early in the day as possible. On the day of this shoot, I took one of the first trains of the morning from Villefranche-sur-Mer, where I was staying, and walked down to the beach in Menton as the city was waking up. I had envisioned the scene in my mind, and it looked exactly the way I had hoped. Even better, actually, with that haze. I felt very lucky!
The French Riviera with all its glitz and glamour can be a pretty busy place, and I love finding quiet moments like these.
