Ocean Wave: The Story Behind the Image
Ocean Wave No. 2
I photographed this ocean wave early on a beautiful spring morning at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA, my favorite beach on Cape Ann.
At the end of the beach, there is a small uninhabited island – Salt Island – with a short sandbar that leads out to it. Most of the time, the sandbar is submerged, but at very low tide, it appears, and you can walk out to the island. When the tide comes in, the waves approach this sandbar from both sides, and meet up right over it.
On stormy days, the waves crash into each other, and it’s quite exhilarating to watch, but this morning, there was barely any wind and the ocean was calm. The waves slowly rolled in, met up, and turned into these triangular peaks before breaking.
I can watch those waves forever and this image always makes me so happy: that soft, filtered sunshine through high, wispy clouds; the starbursts on the wave and the sun glitter in the distance; the crystal clear, sea glass-colored water – cheerful and calming all at once.

The prints are available framed and unframed, and as custom printed canvas, metal, and acrylic glass art prints.
